A deep desire to serve God through the healing ministry of Christian Science nursing brings opportunities for spiritual growth. 

“Christian Science Nurse. SECT. 31.  A member of the Mother Church who represents himself or herself as a Christian Science nurse shall be one who has a demonstrable knowledge of Christian Science practice, who thoroughly understands the practical wisdom necessary in a sick room, and who can take proper care of the sick.

The cards of such persons may be inserted in The Christian Science Journal under rules established by the publishers.”

Course Descriptions

Glenmont offers a complete, multi-level education program in The Healing Ministry of Christian Science Nursing, from introductory learning through advanced professional preparation. Courses are designed for serious students of Christian Science and combine classroom instruction with mentoring in a recognized Christian Science nursing facility.

  • Every Day, Loving - What Every Christian Scientist Needs to Know About Christian Science Nursing

    Duration: 5 days
    Suggested Donation: $400-$500
    Who May Attend: Open to all serious students of Christian Science.

    About the Retreat
    Members of the Christian Science community join with Christian Science nursing students to explore:

    • Jesus’ parable of the Good Samaritan

    • The Church Manual By-Law, “Christian Science Nurse”

    With the Pastor as our foundation, attendees learn:

    • Christian Science nursing standards

    • Practical tips for supporting others

    • Preparation of light nourishments

    This course is:

    • A stand-alone learning opportunity

    • The anchor course for The Healing Ministry of Christian Science Nursing, Levels I–IV

    Housing & Travel

    • Housing for the Retreat may be available at Glenmont (please mention your need when submitting your application)

  • The Healing Ministry of Christian Science Nursing (Levels I–IV)

    Program Structure

    • Levels I & II are taught consecutively

    • Each level builds upon the previous one

    • All levels require side-by-side mentoring in a recognized Christian Science nursing facility

    • Mentoring requirements increase at advanced levels

    • Completion of Level IV is required for graduation

  • The Healing Ministry of Christian Science Nursing – Level I

    Format: 9-week classroom course
    Cost: $3,000
    Prerequisite: Begins with the Retreat described above

    Course Content
    Students learn:

    • Christian Science nursing standards

    • Skills and care options of assistive care and light bed care

    • Care of the patient’s environment

    • Nourishment

    • Communication

    This course is immediately followed by Level II.

  • The Healing Ministry of Christian Science Nursing – Level II

    Format: 9-week classroom course
    Cost: $3,000

    Course Content
    Builds on the metaphysical foundation and ethics of Level I and includes:

    • Comprehensive training in giving care in bed

    • Assistance with mobility

    • Nourishment

    • Assessment skills

    • Introduction to cleansing and bandaging

    • Support for those experiencing mental needs and immediate care needs

    Mentoring Requirement

    • Followed by at least 1,500 hours of mentoring

    • Includes daily nurturing oversight and periods of side-by-side instruction

    Progression

    • Level II is a pre-requisite for Level III

  • The Healing Ministry of Christian Science Nursing – Level III

    Duration: 10-month course
    Cost: $3,000
    Format: 180 hours of classroom training combined with mentoring

    Course Content
    Includes:

    • Review of ethics and skills from Levels I and II

    • Classroom and mentoring instruction

    • Comprehensive training in giving care to those with wounds

    • Care for those experiencing mental needs and immediate care needs

    • Introduction to giving care to children

    • Enrichment of communication and assessment skills

    Progression

    • Level III (classroom and mentoring) is the pre-requisite for Level IV

  • The Healing Ministry of Christian Science Nursing – Level IV

    Duration: 12-month course
    Cost: $3,000
    Format: 180 hours of classroom training, mentoring, and mentored supervision experience

    Course Content
    Includes:

    • Grand review of ethics, standards, skills, and care options

    • Instruction and mentoring

    • Leadership and management

    • Supervision

    • Workshop facilitation and presentation

    Completion Requirement

    • Level IV (classroom and mentoring) is required for graduation from
      The Healing Ministry of Christian Science Nursing training program

  • All Levels require a period of side-by-side mentoring in a recognized Christian Science nursing facility.

Qualifications for Levels I-IV

  • Applicants must:

    • Be members of The Mother Church

    • Be 18 years or older

    • Be physically able to perform required activities

    • Be completing or have completed Primary Christian Science Class Instruction
      from an authorized teacher of Christian Science

    • Be a dedicated Christian Scientist with a firm, clear sense of the mission of Christian Science and its healing ministry

Compensation:

  • Christian Science nurses working on the Christian Science nursing floor (and planning to continue work at Glenmont) are eligible for pay.  However, completion of a class is not a guarantee of employment.

  • Meals and housing are usually available for a reasonable fee.

Glenmont is committed to:

  • Emphasizing spiritual study and growth as the primary component of each Christian Science nurse’s work.

  • Supporting each Christian Science nurse’s progress at his or her own pace.

  • Freeing Christian Science nurses from a false sense of responsibility for patients’ healing, while at the same time encouraging each one to be a transparency for divine Love — a window through which Christ’s light will shine into patients’ hearts.

  • Supporting international Christian Scientists committed to the healing ministry of Christian Science nursing.

  • Supporting experienced Christian Science nurses not employed by Glenmont with classes and / or mentoring to refresh or increase their skills and to gain a deeper understanding of the ethics of Christian Science nursing and its healing effect.
